CryptoPunks Overview
CryptoPunks are one of the first and most well-known NFT collections, launched in June 2017 by software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson from Larva Labs. The collection consists of 10,000 unique, algorithmically generated 24×24 pixel art avatars stored on the Ethereum blockchain.
Each CryptoPunk is distinctive and represents various characters, including humans, zombies, apes, and aliens, with some traits being rarer than others.
Initially, the Punks could be claimed for free, which contributed to their rapid spread. Today, they have become a status symbol, fetching high prices—some Punks have sold for millions of dollars. Their historical significance and impact on the development of NFTs make them valuable collectibles in the digital art world.
CryptoPunks exemplify not only digital art but also the potential of blockchain technology to create unique digital ownership.
